J.Crew has been on a boastful streak recently. First, the company claimed that it was calling the Birkenstock revival—before anyone else. Now, it's stating that it has "invented" a brand-new kind of bathing suit in the rash guard-plus-bikini-bottom combo. The eagle-eyed writers at J.Crew Aficionada spotted this "cocky" moment in a recent J.Crew email. It read, "The Rash Guard Bikini. Because... wait. Did we just invent a whole new kind of bathing suit? Whoa."
While the company's been pushing the rash-guard top for a couple seasons now, it's a little bizarre to say they invented it. As J.Crew Aficionada writes, "No. No you did not J.Crew. The combination of rash guard top and bikini bottom has been around for quite some time. I have seen tons of athletes, ranging from surfing to beach volleyball, rocking that look for years now." Though we have to say, we do like J.Crew's rendition. Even if they didn't actually come up with it first.
