André Leon Talley gave a eulogy at designer L'Wren Scott's memorial service in NYC last week, and today, Vanity Fair has the full text. It's lengthy, sad, and full of tidbits about Scott and tales of their times together. She was generous, Talley wrote, with her time and attention. Talley describes her as a "sophisticated lady who had achieved her dream."
Once, when he had arrived in Paris and the airline had lost his luggage, she insisted on lending him a coat. It is one of his favorite memories. "For four days, I walk around in the same Juicy Couture tracksuit," he said. "Every one I go to, every show, I have the same speech to everyone I meet. They haven't found my luggage, I have nothing to wear." Scott sent him one of her Lanvin trenches. "I was so touched. When I got to the hotel, the coat was already there at the concierge. What a surprise, the coat of course had sleeves so tight, I didn't dare try to slide the coat on. It was voluminous, beige, elegant, luxe. I couldn't let L'Wren down. So I twisted the coat into a serpent-like muffler and wore it around my neck to the shows, finally returning it to her in person, in Paris, on the front row of the Balenciaga show," he says.
Cathy Horyn, Sarah Jessica Parker and Ellen Barkin also spoke at the memorial and Mick performed a rendition of Dylan's "Just Like a Woman."
