Even the CFDA Is Giving Out Awards for Instagram Now

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Congratulations are in order: Patrick Janelle, aka @aguynamedpatrick, beat out seven other contenders to become the first CFDA Instagrammer of the Year in a crowd-sourced competition to find the best fashion Instagrammer in the game. The eight nominees were selected by CFDA Fashion Award noms in Womenswear, Accessories, and Menswear, and each Instagrammer had to complete a nine-day challenge photographing looks from one of the designers. The Instagrammer with the most likes by the end of May 29 won the title and the opportunity to serve as the official CFDA Instagram correspondent during the actual awards show.

Janelle was paired with Thom Browne, whose weirdly wonderful aesthetic always makes for good Instagram bait. However, the photo with the most likes didn't have Thom Browne gear in it at all, rather it was an artfully arranged shot of Shake Shack hamburgers. And that is why crowd-sourced wins are always the best kind of wins.
