Can the bearded guy whose face is plastered on lip balm cases the world over really sustain an entire documentary? Filmmaker Jody Shapiro is betting so with Burt's Buzz, a look at the life of enigmatic Burt's Bees founder Burt Shavitz. The film hits theaters, iTunes, and On Demand on June 6, and it answers the eternal question: Is there really a Burt and does he really look like that? Yes and yes, and he's absolutely beloved in Taiwan.
Burt's Buzz tells the story of how the curmudgeonly beekeeper from Maine accidentally co-created a billion dollar natural beauty product company with his Burt's Bees partner and former lover Roxanne Quimby, and how Quimby bought out Shavitz's shares and sold 80 percent of Burt's Bees for a whopping $177 million. Would all that money have made a difference for a dude who lived for years in a converted turkey coop though? Burt's Buzz explores what it's like to be the beauty industry's equivalent of Colonel Sanders.
