Old Navy's annual $1 flip flop sale is going down Saturday, June 28, and this year, the retailer is betting on a two-prong marketing strategy: social media-powered flip flop vending machines for LA and New York, and Jimmy Kimmel for the rest of America. AdAge reports that a skit will air Thursday on Jimmy Kimmel Live featuring Old Navy flip flops being used in a "unique" way. The skit will be posted on Kimmel's YouTube page and promoted by Old Navy via social media. The terms of the deal with Kimmel were not disclosed to AdAge. Kimmel follows in the footsteps of Amy Poehler, who recently began filming Old Navy commercials this spring.
Meanwhile, Old Navy flip flop vending machines will be stationed in various locations in New York and Los Angeles starting today through June 26. The machines will dispense one pair of free flip flops per unique Twitter handle in exchange for a tweet. Old Navy says they're set to give away 9,000 pairs, so that's 9,000 tweets about flip flops flooding your feed if all goes to plan. For vending machine locations, check Old Navy's Twitter.
