Harper's Bazaar sent model Lyndsey Scott to report on Apple's WWDC conference for fashion people because let's be real, most of us stopped reading Wired's recap at sentence four. Scott's previous tech experience includes developing her own app for the fashion industry (iPort) so she was more then capable of sifting through the jargon and hanging out with techies for a day.
She first sets the scene by recounting the intro video that was played at the beginning of the conference, in which many unsuspecting people were asked what a software developer looked like. By and large, the answer was, "I couldn't even imagine what a developer would look like." Maybe this was some sort of backhanded ego stroke for the audience full of developers? Anyway, she doesn't dwell on it too long.
Scott breaks down the Apple presentation into 10 easily-digestible points revolving around what iOS8 is going to change about the iPhone. Safari web browsing is going to get easier with new developments in navigating through web pages. Apple's going to take another stab at a Siri-like method of texting where typing on a keyboard will (hopefully) be abandoned in favor of speaking and listening to your texts. Autocorrect will be smarter, group messaging will be less annoying, and a whole new programming language called Swift was introduced. As Scott carefully explains, Swift=better apps. Got it. Now we can finally get excited about iOS8. Check out the full breakdown here.
