Apple is jumping on board the recent Silicon Valley transparency train, releasing a breakdown of its workforce in terms of gender and race. Valleywag notes that the company is 70% male, a number that takes into account both Apple HQ staffers and workers at the brand's many stores. Women make up just 20% of Apple's tech hires and 28% of its leadership hires. In terms of race, Apple is 55% white, 15% Asian, 11% Hispanic and 7% black.
Apple's CEO said in a statement, "I'm not satisfied with the numbers on this page. They're not new to us, and we've been working hard for quite some time to improve them. We are making progress, and we're committed to being as innovative in advancing diversity as we are in developing our products."
