J.Crew's first perfume collection launches next week, but don't expect the scents to be too mainstream. WWD reports that J.Crew turned to perfumer and architect Carlos Huber of niche fragrance brand Arquiste to help develop the retailer's two scents.
Huber specializes in perfumes that channel evocative moments in history, and for J.Crew, he whipped up fragrances titled No. 31 and No. 57. Both scents are inspired by the opening of "Exhibition by 31 Women," the first all-female modern art show in America curated by Peggy Guggenheim at New York's Art of This Century Gallery on East 57th Street.
What does that smell like exactly? WWD has it that No. 57 brings to mind aged whiskey, cinnamon bark, and vanilla while No. 31 has notes of red vermouth, Bulgarian rose, and damson plum. J.Crew liked the scents so much they increased their purchase of perfume from Arquiste so the fragrances could launch in all 269 stores, as well as online, with a dedicated landing page on J.Crew's website. The scents will each retail for $78 for 50 ml and $25 for 10 ml, with a drop date of August 20th.
