Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The VMAs are like any other award show, except everyone is...hornier. Recall, this is the award show where Madonna and Britney made out, Miley Cyrus straddled a wrecking ball and grinded with everything in sight, including Robin Thicke. Getting with the vibe, Christina Aguilera spent the early 2000s attending the VMAs in anything but clothing. Assuming she's parted with her Dirrty ways, post-baby, let's pay homage to all those time she walked the VMA carpet in little lacy things.

1999: At almost 19-years-old, America's sweetheart showed a little bit of belly, in a sheer lace-trimmed cheetah cami. Kind of like the first piece of lingerie you pick up from Victoria's Secret. And she paired it with flat, black boots. Cute.

2000: Wowza! Welcome to the m1LlEnNiUm. Don't think you could wear this even to sleep.

2001: The patchwork denim jeans and newsboy cap balance out the cropped bralette and suggestive body chain.

2001: In her defense, she was performing Lady Marmalade.

2002: Xtina invented underboob, side boob, everything boob, in this one instant. And that belt chain has a cross on it.

2003: For the S&M extraordinaire.

2004: This is as classy as it gets.
