Blake Lively's new Southern Gothic-themed lifestyle site Preserve burst forth on the internet landscape with the help of Vogue, a ton of critical response—some good and most bad—and a lot of Goop comparisons. And now, per this Linkedin listing, the actress-turned-business-lady is searching for an Editorial Director to sit at the helm of the site. The job description reads thusly:
We're looking for an editorial director with experience managing a group of writers for online media. Experience with lifestyle editorial is a must, and the ability to craft, curate and edit stories that represent a cohesive theme is critical. We're especially interested in talent that has the ability to think visually and photographically as well, not just in words. At Preserve, our stories are almost always tongue-in-cheek (though way too many reviewers take our slight parodies very seriously,) [sic] and we like having fun with our lifestyle subjects. We curate products through recipes, poems, essays, commentaries, and any other form the written word can take—and we need someone who can keep that "let's-not-take-ourselves-too-seriously" essence going through all our content—curated, and original.
That's right, everyone missed the "slight parody." Was it the fact that Blake signed her editor's letter "With excitement and sincerity?" Was it the part where she called out the idea that "'Doing good' is often looked at with a cynical eye?" Is the $14 black truffle salt supposed to be funny? There was that bit about enchiladas, so maybe the joke's on all of us.
To be fair, this is an issue that Blake deals with on a regular basis. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actress told Vogue, "When I say something funny, I don't laugh, so my friends are always like, 'Hahahahaaaa!' so people know. When I'm not with them, I always think, This person doesn't know I'm funny; they just think I'm a jerk." There's no laugh track in writing.
