Think tank L2's newest retail analysis examined how department stores are faring on the digital front. Surprisingly, ever-troubled retailer Sears was one of three department brands awarded "genius status," the highest honor out of the five tiers in the ranking.
Sears beat out JCPenney, Net-a-Porter, and Bloomingdales (who were among the second-highest tier) and Barneys, Bergdorf, and Lord & Taylor (ranked as merely average), for their high achievement in their digital strategy. According to Adweek, the stores were ranked based on an analysis of their loyalty programs, merchandising, search, social media following, and mobile app proficiency.
