Makeup magnate CoverGirl's ads received a powerful transformation thanks to protestors of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
As the "official beauty partner of the NFL," CoverGirl released a series of ads promoting makeup collections that cater to team colors. Last night, the Ravens ad was usurped by a photoshopper, who gave the image black eye, then tweeted with hashtags #GoodellMustGo and #BoycottNFL.
As commissioner, Goodell is held responsible for the NFL organization's total mishandling of former Ravens running back Ray Rice's domestic violence case. When the situation came to light, Goodell issued a two-game suspension, which is a lighter punishment than a player would get for smoking weed. Only after TMZ released the full video was Rice was banned from the NFL.
In response to the Twitter protest, CoverGirl issued a tepid statement that reads:
As a brand that has always supported women and stood for female empowerment, CoverGirl believes domestic violence is completely unacceptable. We developed our NFL program to celebrate the more than 80 million female football fans. In light of recent events, we have encouraged the NFL to take swift action on their path forward to address the issue of domestic violence.As of nearly 24 hours after the first photoshopped images first surfaced, the brand's original imagery still decorates CoverGirl's site.
