What the Lilly Pulitzer Team Wears to Work (Color! Prints!)

Welcome to Working It, where Racked follows street style into the office.

The headquarters for Lilly Pulitzer are located in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, but you'd be forgiven if you thought you had somehow been transported to Palm Beach once you stepped in the door. Everything from the employees to the walls are covered in bright, colorful prints juxtaposed against crisp whites worn well after Labor Day.

The brand was founded by Lilly in 1959 after she eloped with Peter Pulitzer, opened a juice stand, and started designing clothing on the side. (The line exploded when Jackie Kennedy wore one of her dresses that was made from the same material as kitchen curtains.) Their office reflects that history and more to a T. After the jump, see what the team behind the prints wears to work.

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Who would you swap wardrobes with in a heartbeat?
Lilly's closet back in the '60s and Olivia Palermo's today.

Is there such a thing as too colorful?
No such thing, as long as your pair it with white.

Ashley-Begley-Lilly-Pulitzer

Ashley Begley, Associate Designer for Print and Pattern, is wearing a Lilly Pulitzer kimono, Paige leather leggings, Joie heels, her grandmother's diamond ring, a vintage snake bracelet, and a Lilly Pulitzer tortoise cuff.

What's your shopping guilty pleasure?
Cashmere sweaters. I find a reason to justify every single one.

What fashion rule do you shamelessly break?
I will wear head-to-toe white all year. I pair black and navy, mix and match prints. I'll break all the rules for the sake of breaking them. Lilly broke all of them.

What article of clothing do you own that makes you feel the most like yourself?
A white A.L.C. jumpsuit.

What was your prom dress like?
It was pretty sophisticated—I wore it to a wedding last year! It's a strapless structured navy cocktail dress. It has pockets and a zipper that went all the way down the back. It hit me just above the knee and had black piping details on either side of the zipper.

Ashley-Begley-Lilly-Pulitzer-2

Is there such a thing as too colorful?
Never! "Lilly or louder" is something we say a lot in the studio. Print on print on print! Be daring, be bold.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever monogrammed?
Tennis bloomers.

What makes you a Lilly girl?

Lilly girls are confident girls. They make you smile, they make you laugh, they fill the room with life. They are the social butterflies of every party. I love our prints, I love our heritage. I love the confidence I get when I put on a Lilly, knowing that somebody is going to compliment me on my wild print in a sea of neutrals. Anyone can wear black-it takes real courage to stand out.

Kelsey-Harris-Lilly-Pulitzer-1

Kelsey Harris, Assistant Accessory Designer, is wearing the Lilly Pulitzer Dusk top, Lilly Pulitzer Cambridge palazzo pants, Tory Burch shoes, an Anthropologie necklace, a Kate Spade bangle, Lilly Pulitzer bracelets, a Pink FitBit Flex, and Madewell and Vance Jewelry rings.

What's your shopping guilty pleasure?
Dresses-they are slowly taking over my closet. They're just so easy to throw on and be ready to walk out the door.

What fashion rule do you shamelessly break?
Thinking Bruce Springsteen T-shirts are acceptable everywhere I go.

What's the best piece of shopping advice you've ever heard?
You can always feel confident with a good handbag.

What was your prom dress like?
My favorite was a short cream BCBG dress with appliqué flowers all over it. It wasn't a typical prom dress, but I've gotten multiple uses out of it.

What are your beauty must-haves?
I swear by Aquaphor. It's the perfect lipgloss and lotion.

Kelsey-Harri-Lilly-Pulitzer-2

If you could fly anywhere for the winter, where would it be?
Either Sandestin, Florida for the white sand and the crystal clear waters or to Honolulu to surf on Waikiki Beach.

Who would you swap wardrobes with in a heartbeat?
Lauren Conrad. Ever since her days on Laguna Beach and The Hills, she can do no wrong. I love the clothes she wears and the clothes she designs for her label, Paper Crown.

What's your shopping guilty pleasure?

What fashion rule do you shamelessly break?
White jeans are a year-round staple.

Who's your professional role model?
Lilly Pulitzer. If you aren't having fun then it isn't worth it.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever monogrammed?
I monogrammed Lilly koozies with naughty sayings. I enjoy the unexpected. There's nothing funnier (to me) than something really sweet combined with something that's a little naughty.

What's the best piece of shopping advice you've ever heard?
You'll never regret spending money on quality pieces that last. But sometimes, it's nice to sleep on something and if you're still thinking about it the next morning, it's probably worth it.

Margaret-Moore-Lilly-Pulitzer-2

What was your prom dress like?
Short white goddess-like chiffon, with a huge pink flower appliqué at my collarbone.

If you could fly anywhere for the winter, where would it be?
Palm Beach... and Capri.

Who would you swap wardrobes with in a heartbeat?
Lilly Pulitzer, Anna Della Russo, Jackie O.

What makes you a Lilly girl?
A smile, a wink, and never taking myself too seriously. Life is always better in Palm Beach, with family and friends-particularly if there's a cocktail involved.

Blaire-Billman-Lilly-Pulitzer

Blaire Billman, Web Designer, is wearing a Lilly Pulitzer sweater, clutch, and bangles, a J.Crew skirt, Steve Madden shoes, and a mix of vintage and Etsy rings.

What fashion rule do you shamelessly break?
White after Labor Day. I feel so pretty and feminine in white-definitely not limiting that to one season.

What's the best piece of shopping advice you've ever heard?
Make investment purchases rather than quick trendy buys. Easier said than done!

What article of clothing do you own that makes you feel the most like yourself?
I have this bright, colorful maxi skirt that I got from a boutique in Florida. I always get compliments when I wear it.

What was your prom dress like?
My senior prom dress was long, yellow, and backless from BCBG. I felt like the brunette version of Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

Blaire-Billman-Lilly-Pulitzer

What are your beauty must-haves?
Dr. Bronner's Citrus Orange Castile soap, L'Oreal Voluminous mascara, and Maybelline Baby Lipsare everyday staples. If I'm feeling fancy, I'll use Diorshow Maximizer underneath my mascara to make my eyelashes extra long and full.

If you could fly anywhere for the winter, where would it be?
Australia. I'm not a huge fan of winter, so two summers with spring and fall in between sounds perfect.

Is there such a thing as too colorful?
Maybe some places, but definitely not in our office!

Ingrid-Johnson-Lilly-Pulitzer

Ingrid Johnson, Associate Designer for Print and Pattern, is wearing an American Apparel top, Lilly Pulitzer Patch maxi skirt, vintage earrings, a ring from Vix Emporium and self-made bands on her left hand, and an Erica Silva ring on her right hand.

What's your shopping guilty pleasure?
I love perusing stores like Joyce Leslie and Rainbow-you never know when you're going to find a hidden gem.

What fashion rule do you shamelessly break?
I don't really believe in fashion rules, so I guess that's breaking all of them? What fun is it if you limit yourself?

What's the best piece of shopping advice you've ever heard?
Never pay retail.

What article of clothing do you own that makes you feel the most like yourself?
I have several vintage dresses that belonged to my mother. They're exactly my style, and the fact that they were hers makes them even more special.

What are your beauty must-haves?
I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to beauty, but I never go out without mascara.

Ingrid-Johnson-Lilly-Pulitzer-2

Who would you swap wardrobes with in a heartbeat?
Giovanna Battaglia.

Is there such a thing as too colorful?
Never. Whether I'm wearing Lilly or not, my wardrobe is all about color.

Marguerite-Walters-Lilly-Pulitzer

Marguerite Walters, Associate Producer, is wearing a Lilly Pulitzer dress (worn as a top), a Tibi skirt, a vintage belt, Tory Burch heels, arm bands from Campbells, a Lilly Pulitzer cuff and bangle, and another cuff from Alexis Bittar.

What's your shopping guilty pleasure?
Jumpsuits. I can't get enough. I find myself justifying the purchase because I always feel amazing when I wear them.

What article of clothing do you own that makes you feel the most like yourself?
A brightly colored party dress! I love the full skirt and fitted top-it's classic with a feminine touch.

What fashion rule do you shamelessly break?
Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off. I take the too-much-is-never-enough approach and throw on five more pieces as I'm running out the door. I absolutely love layering, especially loads of bracelets.

Marguerite-Walters-Lilly-Pulitzer-3

What was your prom dress like?
It was fab in 2007 and it still is fab! It was a light blue long silk dress from Nicole Miller, and I absolutely loved wearing it. I also went to senior prom with my current fiancé, so I think that makes the dress extra special.

What are your beauty must-haves?
For face, SKII-every single product. Amika dry shampooFlowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf, and Kai lotion.

What's the best piece of shopping advice you've ever heard?

An oldie but goodie: quality over quantity. I still need to remind myself of this one sometimes, but it couldn't be more true.

Jose-Rainier Cuadra-Lilly-Pulitzer

Jose Rainier Cuadra, Visual Director, is wearing a 3.1 Phillip Lim shirt, Lilly Pulitzer pants (from the spring 2015 collection), Vans shoes, Miansai and Giles & Brother bracelets and a ring, and a Mifland bag.

What fashion rule do you shamelessly break?
I think after working here for eight years, I've broken all the rules. Fashion is fun, so break every rule possible. Have fun with it! I'm a true believer in wearing whatever makes you feel great and damn sexy. There's always an outfit that gives you a little extra swagger when you walk.

What's the best piece of shopping advice you've ever heard?
Never shop in the middle of the night. Do you know how many times I come home from a work trip and there will be literally boxes from a late night shopping binge? Don't tell the BF.

What article of clothing do you own that makes you feel the most like yourself?
I guess it depends on the season. For fall, it's outerwear. I like being bundled up and cozy. For spring or summer, it's my linen T-shirts. They're easy to layer and are so comfortable during the hot days.

Jose-Rainier-Cuadra-Lilly-Pulitzer

What's the weirdest thing you've ever monogrammed?
I've been known to monogram boxers. To be honest, I would monogram everything if I could.

What are your beauty must-haves?
Floss. Is that a beauty tip? There's something about a person's smile. It's definitely the very first thing that people see and I love to smile, so I floss everyday.

Who would you swap wardrobes with in a heartbeat?
Hands down, Nick Wooster. That guy can pretty much pull-off anything. He's someone that I definitely watch-I mean, this is a man who jokingly refers to his wardrobe as his 401k. And we share the love of camo.
