Legendary comedian Joan Rivers has passed away at the age of 81, after being put in a medically-induced coma after complications during a vocal cord surgery. TMZ reports that her daughter Melissa made the decision to take her mom off life support so she could "pass comfortably in a private room."
Rivers, who most recently starred in Fashion Police and Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?, started in comedy in the mid-1960s and, since then, has helped pave the way for other female comics. You can read more about her groundbreaking career here, here and here.
