After a morning of teases via Jenna Lyons, we made it to Lincoln Center to scope J.Crew's spring 2015 collection in person. The brand's now-signature mix of texture, color, and proportion didn't miss a beat, calling out Mexico, Peru, and Ibiza as inspiration points.
Along for the ride: plenty of voluminous, mid-length shorts and pants, including patterned board shorts, jogger-style chinos, and a short-sleeved romper cinched below the waist. Even presumably high-waisted pencil skirts were styled with long tops, shrouding any hint of natural waist. Bottoms have been trending lower and slouchier across the board—a tricky wear for women below model height—but that's where sexy Sophia Webster for J.Crew heels come into styling.
The palette was rich with khaki of the safari ilk spiked with jade green and mint, played against super-saturated royal blue, sunny yellow, and optic white—happy, approachable colors that are kind to the retailer's massive audience. Fabrics like mesh, linen, and organdy were spiked with the occasional sequin-sprayed sweater or skirt, a thoughtful balance of high and low luminosity in each look.
Speaking of reflective power, hologram made an appearance in handbags, while a selection of those aforementioned Sophia Webster for J.Crew sandals were mirrored gold. In other guest designer news, some of the glossy sunglasses in taupe and brown were made by Super for J.Crew (sunnies by Culter and Gross and Illesteva also made appearances, though not exclusively for the brand). Rope belts and bracelets, seed bead necklaces, and a single bucket hat rounded out the notably minimal accessory offerings.
J.Crew didn't miss the opportunity to flaunt it's revved up denim infatuation in the show, including pieces from its premium line Point Sur. Expect to see cropped flares, shrunken workman jackets, even blazers done in the material come spring at the retailer's stores.
