Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

FKA Twigs is Paper's October cover star, showing off the skills she learned while dancing backup for Kylie Minogue and in ballet class. In a series of black and white photos taken by Paola Kudacki, the singer folds into a pretzel wearing Stella McCartney and relevés in Vivienne Westwood.

Born in rural Gloucestershire of South West England, Twigs sees herself as a "country girl," who partakes in international tours and five-hour shoots for magazines. She opens up about her strict on-tour diet to Paper, admitting that it consists of fish, sushi, and vegetables. Before the conversation is over, she reveals, "But I do love cake. Cake's amazing."

When asked who her career is "for" if not for her fans, she brings up her future children. Although the name of rumored fiancé Robert Pattinson doesn't come up, Twigs clarifies, "the children that I haven't had yet," while patting her stomach. She continues:

I'm quite traditional. You know that saying, "You can take the girl out of the country but you can't take the country out of the girl"? I grew up in Gloucestershire, and there's a certain format that people fit into. And I'm actually quite happy with that format. I'm quite happy to say, "Go to school, work hard on your GCSEs, do your A-Levels, get married, have children. Send your kids to a nice school. Make sure you're in the right catchment area.

She even compares herself to a car salesman, who does his job every day for the same reason that she does hers. See FKA Twigs's grace in full over at Paper.
