Madewell is about to turn a very big corner. The J.Crew Group-owned brand is slated to add 15 stores this year, bringing them to 100, and will begin wholesaling internationally though Net-a-Porter this month and through Nordstrom (both in store and online) next month.
In the midst of major growth, Madewell is working to keep up with its core customer. "We had a loyal fanbase, and it's about maintaining that, and not having them outgrow us," head of design Somsack Sikhounmuong told Racked at Madewell's spring presentation. "We're making things less trendy, more classics-based. The kinds of things you'd save and wear as you got older—less fussy. That's naturally an older sensibility."
Having seen a preview of this new, slightly more grown up spring collection months back in the Madewell showroom, we were excited to get our hands on a few of the pieces now that they're starting to hit stores. Watch in the video above as we dissect a sweater, a bomber jacket, a pair of mules (yes, mules), and a flared pair of their signature jeans from evolving Madewell.
