American Apparel has fired more top executives: Iris Alonzo and Marsha Brady, the brand's two creative directors. According to Fashionista, this is the second time Alonzo has been fired in the past year. She was fired over the summer last year, when Dov Charney's public fall from grace began, but was rehired in October (Brady stayed on the whole time). Anonymous sources told Fashionista that Alonzo was informed during a meeting yesterday that she was fired again, with no explanation. She was also told she wouldn't be receiving a severance package.
Some sources speculated that Alonzo was fired because she openly contested a decision to cut factory workers' hours, but another source maintains that the firing was over the company's new creative direction. American Apparel's new CEO, Paula Schneider, told Forbes earlier this year that the brand will pivot away from the overtly sexual advertising and imagery Dov Charney was famous for. Now that long-standing creative director Marsha Brady has been fired as well, that seems all the more plausible.
