Bloomberg has video of Chanel shoppers lined up in Hong Kong, waiting for their turn to buy a now-discounted bag as the brand slashes prices in Asia. Chanel announced this week that it would increase prices on some bags by 20% where they are sold in euros; in Asia, it will reduce prices by more than 20% to account for a price gap caused by the weakening euro.
The adjustments will roll out worldwide on April 8, but at the Hong Kong shop where the costs have already changed, about 40 shoppers lined up to buy bags. Store employees had to turn some away at the door when bags sold out. Shopper Lily Li told Bloomberg that she saved HK$10,000 on a black Boy Chanel bag, saying, "I was planning to go to Europe to buy handbags, but there’s no need to travel there to shop now."
