Ikea is rolling out a brand-new line of furniture that will wirelessly charge some mobile devices, The Verge reports. Bedside tables, desks, and lamps will all have built-in Qi wireless charging pads, and Ikea is also going to sell stand-alone charging pads that will turn any surface into a wireless charger. The smartphone-charging collection will be in Ikea stores in North America and Europe in April, according to the Wall Street Journal.
"People hate cable mess. They worry about not finding the charger and running out of power," Jeanette Skjelmose, Ikea's business area manager in charge of lighting and wireless charging, said in a statement.
But cords aren't going away entirely. WSJ reports that the wireless-charging enabled furniture itself needs to be connected to a power source, so prepare to plug in that table or desk.
