Joesph Pickman, the former men's design director for Band of Outsiders, has been hired away by American Apparel to inject some life back into the retailer's men's business. According to WWD, Pickman was been tasked with transferring the aesthetic he developed at Band of Outsiders to American Apparel.
"The men's business has been trending down for quite a while and we need to really work on bringing that back up to where it could be because we have the consumer, but the conversions aren't there," American Apparel's CEO Paula Schneider said. "So we're working really hard to update our basics and to also have a better merchandised experience when you walk in [stores]."
This new hire reportedly marks the end of Schneider's hiring (and firing) to build out a new, post-Dov Charney executive team. The influence of the new team will materialize in revamped merchandise rolling out in the fall.
