Sephora's very friendly return policy allows shoppers to return any item new or used, within 60 days of purchase. So if you really hate a lipstick or can't figure out how to use a highlighter, Sephora will take it back, no questions asked. But are there any trends that emerge with the items that are returned? Stylecaster asked several Sephora employees to share which products they think are most often returned, and here are some interesting nuggets from their return rundowns:
1. Benefit They’re Real Push-Up Liner is deemed really hard to use. "We all received this gratis and unfortunately I don’t think any of us liked it, and 99% of clients who buy it return it because this stuff is seriously just so hard to use," Kristen Bousquet said.
2. Not blending easily is the worst for contour products. The most returned list includes Smashbox Cream Contouring Sticks ("They aren’t the easiest to work with as far as blend-ability goes," Jill Decoteau said), and Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzers ("You’d think that with the cocoa powder and cocoa butter in them, they’d have some serious blending power but for some reason they just don’t deliver," Alexandra Holloway said). These two employees recommended Kat Von D and Anastasia contouring options and Tarte or NARS bronzer instead.
3. It's not these products' fault that they got returned. If BECCA Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector doesn't work, maybe it's your skincare routine. "You need to start looking at your skincare and getting a mattifying moisturizer as well because that stuff sucks up every last bit of oil on most people’s skin," said Marsia Nogueira. And Nogueira called out returns of Kat Von D Lock It Foundation, saying, "I believe it’s because clients are neglecting to wear a primer with it."
4. This $48 foundation often gets returned, according to one employee. Nogueira was disappointed by NARS All-Day Luminous Weightless Foundation. She said: "Tons of clients return this foundation because it doesn’t sit well on 99% of people. This foundation is supposed to look better throughout the day, but what about when you first put it on?"
