Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Today Tara Lipinski, a skater who now does other things, was seen at the Kentucky Derby parading about the grounds with a hat-like object perched atop her head.  Upon closer inspection, it became clear that the object was neither a hat nor a festive fascinator. The confusing (yet pretty) faux chapeau was in fact her hair, braided to resemble a hat. Why? We go live to Tara's Instagram page for the official answer: #HatHair. Figures—had to be about a hashtag.
