In the ten months since Christophe Lemaire left his post as head designer at Hermès, he has renamed his namesake brand Lemaire (to better reflect the role of his partner, Sarah-Linh Tran), launched e-commerce, and is now planning a collaboration with Uniqlo. According to WWD, the collection will debut this fall, right around the same time that Uniqlo's collaboration with Carine Roitfeld will be hitting stores.
WWD notes that the collaboration should help Lemaire get its refined, minimalist designs in front of a much larger audience. The brand is known for a pared-down look but doesn't shy away from weird elements: the designers made headlines during Paris Fashion Week in March when they sent boob bags down the runway.
"I think a lot of the fashion out there today is pointless — things either look alike or lack coherence," Lemaire told WWD. "But as long as you are surrounded by like-minded people, as is the case at Lemaire today, and you believe in what you're doing, the work is very satisfying. We are very fortunate and happy to do this job, especially now that we are getting recognition. It's reassuring."
