Tina Fey Modeled Layers and Layers of Spanx on David Letterman

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Since last night marked Tina Fey's last time appearing on the Last Show With David Letterman, it also marked her last time wearing a fancy dress on a talk show (The definition of "fancy dress" is one where Spanx are required, FYI.) Fey explained to the retiring late night host, "I don't know if you're aware of the contraptions under here, it's almost medical. I'm terrible in heels. I dress up like this out of respect for you. [...] What, am I gonna put a dress on for Jimmy? That's creepy, he's like my brother."

So in honor of the last dress she'll ever wear on a talk show, Fey kicked off her "Kate Middleton-esque" dress (Letterman's words), revealing a commemorative leotard atop a nude pair of Spanx. A pleased, and seemingly surprised, David Letterman finds himself speechless in the presence of Fey's semi-nudity. It's not creepy. They hug. It's definitely not creepy.
