Lena Dunham and her Girls production partner Jenni Konner are carving out time to launch a feminist newsletter in September, according to Buzzfeed News. The newsletter, dubbed "Lenny" (a mashup of their names) is already staffed with former Jezebel and Rookie writers, and aims to showcase deep-diving political content alongside fashion, beauty, and wellness tidbits.
As Buzzfeed News writer Anne Helen Peterson notes, this isn't a new concept, and until Lenny launches, it's unclear how the newsletter will differentiate itself from plenty of other women's media outlets chasing the same type of content. Jessica Grose, Lenny's editor-in-chief, describes it as a "Goop meets Grantland" hybrid. There will be an e-commerce element in it, too. Konner describes it as "e-commerce that collaborates with independent female artists and designers in ethical, affordable, and witty apparel and design items."
As the newsletter evolves, it'll have a website component similar to Goop, although the team is already planning on leaving out a comments section to discourage trolls. "With Lenny there's no such thing as TMI, there's no such thing as self-involved," Dunham told Buzzfeed News. "We'll be allowed to show the ugly and complicated thought processes that go into forming your own brand of feminism, and your own identity, because it's not all clean back here."
