Soul singer and Givenchy muse Erykah Badu explained the secret behind her inimitable style to Vogue this week. It's all Badu, there's no style team behind her look and what you see her wear on stage is the same as what she wears in her everyday life. "I make no distinction between what I wear on the street and the stage; it’s all just my style," Badu told Vogue. "I don’t work with a stylist, and I never plan what I’m going to wear, it’s always an of-the-moment thing."

On the day Badu spoke with Vogue, she was wearing green overalls from Yellow Rat Bastard, and showed off her jewelry box full of ankle bracelets from Swaziland and knuckle-duster Lillian Shalom rings. "Accessories really are everything for me," she said. "I travel with a black body bag full of them when I’m on tour. I’ll threw in my Yoruba beads, my Maasai beads—and there’s space for six hats in my hat box."

Surely her amazing Met Gala 2014 hat has its own hat box? "I’ve always enjoyed dressing my head, whether it’s head wraps, hats, or wigs, I’m not sure why," Badu explained to Vogue. "I think that’s just where my mojo lives."
