Wiggling your toes while soaking up the sun on a tropical vacation can only keep you entertained for so long. To shake things up a bit, celebrities have tossed surfing, jet-skiing, and other traditional water sports out the window, and replaced it with Flyboarding. The board was invented by Franky Zapata in 2012, and both Patrick Schwarzenegger and Leonardo DiCaprio picked up the hobby in the summer of 2013. Now, the extreme water sport is simply unavoidable as celebrity after celebrity has given it a whirl.

But what exactly is this is mega-popular yacht-adjacent activity? Jimmy Bissett of Flyboard LI describes how it works in a video from our sister site, The Verge. He explains that "all that water that's getting pushed through just like a regular jet ski is getting redirected through the hose and out the boots." Observe more of your favorite celebs as they propel themselves into the air, life vest and all.
