In the time honored VMA tradition of making it weird, Nicki Minaj took a minute to roll Miley Cyrus up and smoke her with the words "What now?" The beef was due in part to Miley's earlier words, which criticized Nicki's reaction to being left out of the Best Video of the Year category. She said:
"I didn't really get into it. I know there was some beef. I don't really know. I don't follow it [...] You made it about you. Not to sound like a bitch, but that's like, 'Eh, I didn't get my VMA.'"
In response, Nicki used her acceptance speech for Best Hip Hop Video to accomplish two things: (1) thank her pastor and (2) call Miley out in a serious way. The show's editor, who had a big job all around tonight, cut their exchange off, but no one will forget the chills that her look sent down America's collective spine. Or Rebel Wilson's reaction face.
