See the Incredibly Ornate Dresses of the Venice Film Festival Red Carpet

As most Americans celebrated Labor Day with sales and end-of-summer barbecue, a select few were just a gondola ride away at the 72nd Venice Film Festival.

For the event, celebrities brought a parade of stunning formalwear (since the festival is more than one night, there was often more than one couture gown per actress to assess). Popular styles included off-the-shoulder necklines and deep v's with daintily thin straps. Intricate updos also proved to be a big hit, including a faux-hawk on Amber Heard. Kristen Stewart worked every angle in a tea length Chanel dress; Elizabeth Banks wore floral gown after floral gown; and Alessandra Ambrosio even packed a sheer, bottomless dress, an optimal item for twirling.

In the men's department, Shia LaBeouf appeared sans hair, Jake Gyllenhaal wore a velvet suit in the summer, and Johnny Depp brought creative facial hair, per usual. See the exceedingly glamorous looks straight from the Italian film festival's red carpet.
