Between the capes, the sequins, and the many, many dresses that looked like literal interpretations of a Golden Globe, there was one that stood out on Sunday's red carpet for an entirely different reason: Bryce Dallas Howard revealed she'd not only purchased hers rather than borrowing it from a designer, but that she'd purchased hers at a department store.
In an interview with E!'s Guiliana Rancic, the actress casually explained that she'd found the $4,800 Jenny Packham gown at Neiman Marcus. "I like having lots of options for a size six," she said, "as opposed to maybe one option, so I always go to department stores for this kind of stuff." Predictably, much was made of the fact that Bryce Dallas Howard is a size six, a size significantly smaller than the average American woman yet larger than what Hollywood would like audiences to believe is a suitable size for a leading actress. (Just recently, Ashley Benson, who is a size 2, revealed she'd been called "too fat" for a role.)
Like most women who have purchased a multi-thousand dollar gown for a specific occasion, Bryce Dallas Howard doesn't plan on wearing it again. The dress has since appeared on Charity Buzz, where it'll be auctioned off to the highest bidder as of January 27th. Proceeds benefit the Halo Foundation, which serves children in need, and is currently going for $1,000. Before you throw your credit card into the ring, here it is, in all its glory:
