Few things are as honestly “essential” as a coat. A silk blouse? Not essential. Wide-leg trousers? No. A statement choker? Definitely not. But if you live in a place that gets even remotely cold, you need outerwear.
And it doesn’t get much more practical than a wool coat. Depending on the composition, they can be quite warm; they’re suitable for both work and the weekend; and they don’t cost nearly as much as some other fabrics, like down. Above and below, ten of the best this season in a range of colors and styles, all ordered by price.
