Boot season may be the best, but it’s admittedly difficult to keep your favorite pairs looking fantastic when the ground is covered with snow, sleet, and dirty single mittens (the saddest). This is particularly true when said pairs are made from a suede or velvet, both of which are incredibly beautiful but notoriously difficult to keep clean.
Luckily, there’s a lot you can do to protect your suede favorites before and after you wear them in gross wintry weather. To find out more, we tapped Maria Gangemi, the co-founder of direct-to-consumer footwear brand M.Gemi, which is famous for using suede in many of its designs. Almost every single one of the label’s winter boot offerings is available in suede, like the over-the-knee Tetto ($598), the ‘70s-inspired Settanta ($378), and the studded Bandito ($328). And no, Gangemi swears, you don’t have to save them for a non-rainy (or non-snowy!) day.
