Colder weather is setting in, which means it’s time to swap that micro-handkerchief you’ve been wearing around your neck since April for a warmer, more substantial option — a.k.a. an actual scarf.

Yes, scarves are practical, but they’re also a really great styling piece. Opt for something fun, like the cheeky hand-drawn scarves from newcomer and fine artist CJW, or keep it simple with a number of different takes on cashmere and check-print from the usual suspects like J.Crew and Uniqlo. The Rectangle Scarf

The rectangle scarf is the easiest grab-and-go option that looks great layered over anything from an XL puffer coat to a cable-knit sweater.

The Blanket Scarf

Looking to wear a glorified blanket in public? Problem solved. Comfort aside, these oversized, extra-warm scarves are a fun way to upgrade a borderline boring outfit. Wrap it twice around like a cape, or wear it as a shawl in the nook of your elbows.
