As you may have already learned by now, looking put together takes time.
That “no makeup” look? It’s usually a farce, and those glamorous Instagrammers are spending way more time in front of the mirror than they’d like to admit. “Effortless beach waves?” This, too, is supposed to be “fast” and “easy,” according to fashion blogs that lie to you, but realistically achieving it is tedious and time-consuming.
Like beauty routines, putting together the right outfit also takes time. I easily waste 20 minutes of my morning trying on different articles of clothing in an attempt to piece together one measly outfit that I hope looks cute.
If you are like me and you take way too long to get ready, allow me to introduce you to Frank + Oak’s Fluid Shirtdress. The Canadian brand launched womenswear in September, and CEO Ethan Song told Racked over the summer that the goal was to deliver “elevated basics” at an affordable price point. While this is certainly a catchphrase that literally every brand uses to describe what it sells, some of my favorite things now come from Frank + Oak — and this shirtdress is no exception.
The silhouette is a play on the classic white button-down, but it hits mid-thigh. I imagine it can be worn with bare legs in the summer, but the length is a tad too short for my religious restrictions, and so I wear it with pants underneath, which gives it a professional and chic look.
The cotton is powdery soft, and the fit is relaxed. The best part is that it’s super easy to wear. The other day, I threw it on with a pair of light blue skinny jeans and flats and was dressed in under a minute. Before I owned this shirt, the only way I could get dressed that fast was by wearing a schlubby sweatshirt, and while this shirt is almost as comfortable, it definitely looks a whole lot better.
