I’ve Never Loved a Hat Until This Hat

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

My new favorite hat is really the only favorite hat I’ve ever owned, and it’s on sale at Kohl’s for $14.99, so if you live in a place that gets cold, you should stop reading this and just go buy it now, here.

But I’ll still tell you why it’s great. First, it’s really f***ing warm. Like, so warm that I have to take it off when I descend into the subway or I start sweating. Because it’s so thick, it boasts great texture. It has its own shape, whereas most beanies just conform to the shape of your head. It’s heavy and covers my ears without slipping down over my eyes (because yes, that’s a real concern).

I should mention it was free — Kohl’s sent a massive package of Simply Vera goods to the Racked office, and I plucked this off the top — but knowing what I know now, I’d be happy to spend five times what it costs. And if all this practical glory isn’t enough, the icing on the cake is compliments from strangers, which have been rolling in regularly since it became too cold to leave the house without this hat in hand.
