Stella McCartney is branching out into menswear, WWD reports. And assuming the fashion system hasn't completely crumbled by the surge of designers showing immediately shoppable collections, McCartney will present her first men's offering, a spring 2017 collection, this fall.
The designer can thank her father Paul McCartney for getting her the menswear experience that will help make this project a success. Stella once apprenticed with her father's tailor on Savile Row, Edward Sexton. Once upon a time, Sexton helped Stella with things like tailoring and fabric selection.
McCartney's last big category expansion happened all the way back in 2010 when she moved into clothing for kids. However, McCartney has been collaborating with Adidas on the type of athleisure clothes that have been sweeping the menswear — and womenswear — landscape.
WWD also reports that menswear is just one of the many big projects McCartney is working on for 2016.
Looking at her womenswear collections and experience in menswear, McCartney should be a natural fit making clothes for men. The designer is known for her comfortable and casual designs and if she can blend that with her tailoring knowledge, men will flock to the new line.
