An Oscars gown is to a designer as a Vogue cover is to a celebrity: Once your look hits that red carpet, you've made it.
After a few months of press proclaiming Elizabeth Kennedy the hot new red carpet designer, New York-based Kennedy received the final stamp of approval when one of her fall 2016 designs hit the red carpet at the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday night. Mindy Kaling did the honors, wearing a black and blue off-the-shoulder gown featuring a voluminous train down the back.
Kaling's not the first to wear Kennedy on the red carpet, The Affair's Maura Tierney wore one of her gowns to the Golden Globes in January, as did Laverne Cox. The Issac Mizrahi and Donna Karan alum launched her eponymous line two years ago, and staged her first New York Fashion Week show just a few weeks ago. You can order Kaling's dress for $6,200 on Moda Operandi right now.
