Gigi Hadid isn’t the only Hadid sister with a design collaboration in the works. Alana Hadid, an LA-based stylist and the older half-sister of Bella and Gigi, is partnering with Lou & Grey for a new capsule collection out today.
Hadid's collab with Anne Taylor's boho sister brand spotlights Alana's love of patterns, vintage bandanas, and accessories that can perk up any T-shirt and jeans combo. The first full Alana Hadid x Lou & Grey capsule collection includes $98 chevron clutches, $32 printed bandanas, and a sweatshirt with Alana’s nickname (and her Instagram handle) Lanzybear.
Her collab with Lou & Grey got its start when she was shopping at a Lou & Grey store and ended up hitting it off with the brand's corporate employees. Since then, a limited-edition scarf launched in December and Hadid says she will continue releasing Lou & Grey pieces for the next two seasons. "I love them so much, I would work with them forever. I want this collaboration never to end, but I know it doesn't work that way," she told Racked.
We wanted to know what the name "Lanzybear" is all about, and it’s a sweet story. "It's a nickname that my mom gave me when I was a baby. She called me a lot of things like Lanz, but Lanzybear kind of stuck," she said, explaining that all her friends call her Lanzy now.
We also wanted to know what would happen if she saw someone on the street wearing a Lanzybear sweatshirt. "Oh my gosh, that is going to be such a trip if I see people wearing them," Alana said. "I was saying to my friend the other night, I'm going to turn into such a super fan and be like, 'Can I get a picture with you?' if I see people walking down the street wearing them."
Hadid and Lou & Grey threw a party during NYFW in honor of the collab, and Bella and Gigi, as well as Alana's mom, dad and brother were able to make it. "Gigi did the Zoolander fashion show and then came straight from it. I thought that was super cool," Alana said.
Does Alana style her sisters? "As far as styling a whole outfit, they don't need it. They know their own style so well and they've been basically styling themselves for years. We've done a few little shopping trips. But now we're sisters, we just have fun. We have like 9,000 group chats and we talk about everything," she said.
Hadid, who studied political science in college and went for her masters in diplomacy, wants to keep designing. "As cliche as it sounds, the sky's the limit. I never knew that I would be doing a collaboration with an amazing brand. I never knew I would be at fashion week for my own launch," she said.
"It's so exciting and there's a million things I want to do. Obviously, eventually, I want to start my own brand. But that's awhile away. Collaborating right now has really added something to me. I've gotten a better idea of what I want."
Alana's not the only Hadid family member getting ready to make a big break: Complex reported that 16-year-old Anwar Hadid signed a modeling contract with IMG.
