Luxe crop tops are the latest trend to gain momentum this season (snow on the ground and all). But while these skin-baring shirts often conjure up images of warm weather and toned abs, you don't need either to pull them off in the dead of winter. All you really need is a shirt—preferably one with sleeves—or a turtleneck. For Rosie Assoulin's fall 2015 and resort 2016 lookbooks she layered cropped sweaters and peplum-style tanks over loose white button-downs. Thakoon and Jacquemus also tackled the abbreviated trend at their fall 2015 runways shows by using eye-catching pops of velvet and bright red bustiers over deconstructed blouses, respectively.
We've said it time and time again: Layering is your go-to styling trick come winter. It's how you get away with wearing that same oxford button-down three days in a row without anyone actually giving a damn. Try pairing a black mockneck sweater with a patterned cropped tank by Tibi (slide 8) or a bandeau-style top from Marques Almeida (slide 7) over a simple white T-shirt to nail the look yourself.
