Fitbit has just unveiled a new fitness wristband it's billing as its "most fashionable device yet." The Alta, available for preorder today, starts at $130.
If you're familiar with other products in the Fitbit family, the Alta is a little bit slimmer than the Flex, and significantly smaller than the Charge. It's definitely the most bracelet-like design the company (which holds the lion's share of the activity tracker market) has launched, with leather and metal band options that don't scream "fitness monitor!" Fitbit has plans to add a Tory Burch-designed range to the Alta options (which it offers in the Flex range, as well), as well as another fashion designer collaboration it will announce next week during New York Fashion Week.
I got to spend some time with the Alta in advance of its launch, wearing it through a workout, while running errands around New York City, and during a day at the office. Watch the video above to see the newest Fitbit in action, and get the rundown on the product below.
What it does: Basically everything you'd expect from a modern fitness tracker. It counts your steps and measures your sleep, and you can set reminders to move when you've been inactive. It doesn't have heart rate monitoring, but it does have a display screen which can show you the time and stats like steps, distance, and calories burned. It also has a lean suite of smartphone notifications for texts, calls, and calendar alerts.
How much it costs: $129.95 for the "classic" band (a rubberized, sporty style in black, plum, blue, or teal; additional bands are $29.95, in sizes small, large, and extra large, the latter of which is available in black only). Leather bands are $59.99 (graphite or blush pink, both in small and large), and a stainless steel metal band is $99.99 (in one size, small/medium).
When it's available: Preorder begins February 3rd, shipping to the US in March and internationally in April.
