Ikea revamped its famed meatballs last year, adding a vegan option. Now the furniture giant is planning a complete overhaul of every restaurant in all 41 of its US stores, according to the Washington Post.
It sounds like the new Ikea cafe format will be a peaceful respite from stressful shopping decisions. Starting this spring, the restaurant will be divided into three zones, including a family-friendly section with activities for screaming children. Next to that will be a dining area with high-top tables and barstools for quick meals.
Perhaps most interesting is a section that's devoted to "Fika," the Swedish word for coffee break. That part of the cafe will be like a coffee house with a rotating selection of comfy couches, all pulled from Ikea's current selection.
The Post's report includes another fun Ikea meatball fact. There's now a third meatball option beside vegan and whatever is in the original (definitely not horsemeat). Ikea says its new chicken meatballs are meant to be a more sustainable option than the meat version, due to the way they're produced.
