Nearly a year ago, "the dress" divided a nation before landing in the internet graveyard, a sort of purgatory for done-to-death memes. (If you don't know what "the dress" refers to, bless your untainted soul. Here's a timeline from beginning to very timely end.) Like so much of the internet before it, however, "the dress" did not stay dead. Avocados From Mexico trotted out the white-and-gold/black-and-blue vision test to make a funny in a Super Bowl commercial.
Quick ad concept recap: aliens follow an alien tour guide around an exhibit of 1980s to 2010s artifacts, like emojis and a Rubik's Cube. Scott Baio is there, too. The tour guide briskly notes "this is the white and gold dress that started the civil war."
While it seems like those 'cados are trying to start a conversation by taking a side, the shortened, 30-second spot that actually aired only included the line, "this is the dress that started the civil war" and — according to one Racked editor, but honestly who knows — the dress was black and blue. Are the avocados trolling us? Almost definitely.
