Back in the aughts, there was a rule: if you wanted to tell the world you were sort of quirky in an approachable way, there was but one solution. Put a bird on it — “it” being anything, really, from tote bags to lampshades. Even toast.
Five years later, “put a bird on it” is most closely associated with the Portlandia sketch of the same name. But in the years since bird prints have turned from cutesy motif into the butt of hipster jokes, you tend to see them around a lot less.
Today, however, Kate Middleton is bringing them back:
Though it's certainly cute (as is her bouncier-than-usual blowout), the Daily Mail confirms that the dress is Jonathan Saunders, and is indeed from the year 2012. I rest my case.
