The designer musical chairs continue as another label loses its designer today. This time, it's Salvatore Ferragamo's Massimiliano Giornetti who is leaving the label after 16 years, WWD reports. That's right: 16, which in the fashion world feels like a couple centuries at this point.
Gironetti joined Ferragamo in 2000 as the men's designer but eventually climbed to the top of the label in 2011, when he was appointed creative director. Ferragamo will rely on an in-house team in Giornetti's stead. The strategy has had varied results recently. Dior's in-house team created a collection that was fine without Raf Simons, while Lanvin's bombed in Alber Elbaz's absence
With the fashion rumor mill hotter than it has ever been, about how long do you think it takes before some knuckleheads float Giornetti's name for the unfilled Dior job?
We've reached out to Salvatore Ferragamo for comment.
