This season's hottest festival accessory is a giant cardboard box. Specifically, a Google Cardboard virtual reality headset, the device that Coachella is handing out to all of this year's ticket holders.
Racked's sister site The Verge reports that the "welcome boxes" containing 2016 Coachella tickets will include a custom Google Cardboard headset. Using the Coachella Virtual Reality app, it will let viewers flip through 360-degree images from past festivals, interviews, a tour of the grounds, and sets from this year's performers. The content will continue to update until the festival's first weekend.
It's not the first time a fashion (or in Coachella's case, fashion-adjacent) event has embraced similar technology. Back in September, Rebecca Minkoff released a 360 video of her fall 2016 presentation along with a $24 custom Google Cardboard.
