Gwyneth Paltrow — she of Goop, a lot of movies, and that little place inside your soul whispering "you could do better" — is in the middle of the cookbook-promotion hustle. She's stopping by Barnes & Noble and televised morning shows like it's her job, which, of course, it is. Last night, during a brief discussion with Hudson Union Society in New York, she divulged some news about her slow rollout of Goop-branded products: "I've been working on apparel— apparel is next. In September, we're going to launch apparel, and it's very exciting." September!
The mini empire has been rumbling for some time now. In July of last year, Goop's CEO Lisa Gersh told Racked that the business would eventually sell its own fashion line, as well as home goods and kitchenware. A brick-and-mortar store was also on the table. Beauty launched in January (many of us bought into it), but such a rapid follow-up seems quick for a company that has never been about overwhelming its readers/customers ("readomers?").
Goop has revealed very little else about the upcoming fashion line. There's still no information on what the price point is, what category of clothing it will focus on (though "staples" has been thrown out a couple times), or how large the offering will be. If we had to guess based only on the beauty launch, we'd bet that it's seven pieces of loungewear in organic cottons retailing for many, many dollars.
Of the products that are on the docket, Gwyneth says, "We're very, very hard at work at Goop. We are doing a lot. As my CEO always [asks] me, 'Please, can we stop doing so much?'" At least don't stop until an elevated, all-natural jersey tracksuit is in the arms of your faithful, Gwyneth.
