Taylor Swift Bleached Her Hair in the Name of Coachella

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Taylor Swift, formerly a skater skirt– and pastel crop top–wearing celebrity, is now a choker– and Vetements boot–wearing celebrity. Despite the fact that I'm not entirely convinced she wants to be, this is the new Taylor Swift. Here's another part of her makeover: Taylor Swift bleached her hair in the name of Coachella.

On Instagram this afternoon, she shared a photo of her newly bleach white hair with the caption "BLEACHELLA" followed by a lightning rod emoji. Again, very un-Taylor Swift.

There is perhaps a reason behind this choice, in that she recently posed for an equally non–Taylor Swift cover shoot with Vogue in which she (presumably) wore a wig in a similar shade. The person in said spread could be anyone from Karlie Kloss to Michelle Williams to Anna Ewers to Miley Cyrus, even — literally anyone besides Taylor Swift.

Anyway, whoever that person in that Vogue spread was, here she is again, sneaking in on Taylor Swift's Instagram:
