Prince William and Kate Middleton's week-long royal visit to India and Bhutan concluded over the weekend. Over the course of their travels, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a parade of outfits fit for everything from archery to feeding elephants to rigorous hikes to making pleasant conversation with other royals.
While some of these outfits were on par with Kate's usual degree of fanciness (there was a hand-beaded custom Jenny Packham gown estimated to cost $6,000), many were a few surprisingly affordable picks, including a $140 Topshop dress and Zara pants.
In a fully predictable response, not one, but two intrepid publications have embarked upon the heroic task of calculating the cost of each and every one of these items and adding them up together. Both have come to basically the same conclusion: the wardrobe in its entirety will set you back $50,000, or from Kate's perspective, £35,000.
The bad news (if you're by chance the sole person in the world with $50,000 to spend becoming Kate Middleton's lookalike for a week, that is), is that many of the items she wore have already sold out, or have been recycled from years past and are no longer available.
But for the rest of us, who simply delight in diving into the financial proclivities of princesses, here's the highlight reel, courtesy of E!:
— In seven days, Kate wore 18 outfits, made of clothing, shoes, and accessories by 40 different designers.
— She's had the boots she wore while hiking since 2004.
— She wore $11 earrings from Accessorize (!) while playing cricket.
— The wedges she wore while hanging with baby rhinos and elephants are Dune, and cost just $57.
— Last Thursday, she wore four entirely different outfits, for a total daily cost of $13,125.
— One of those items was a Kira-style skirt that could have taken five people more than three months to complete, and paired said skirt with $5,500 amethyst earrings.
— Her most affordable outfits were worn while feeding elephants ($208), visiting a charity ($331), and playing cricket ($326).
