Pop superstar Prince has passed. According to TMZ, emergency vehicles were seen at his estate in Paisley Park, Minnesota this morning around 10:00 a.m. The Associated Press confirmed the musician's death moments ago on Twitter:
BREAKING: Publicist: Pop music superstar Prince has died at his home in suburban Minneapolis.
— The Associated Press (@AP) April 21, 2016
Prince had been suffering from flu-like symptoms for several weeks; on April 15th, shortly after the "Purple Rain" singer's show in Atlanta, his plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois so he could be rushed to the hospital. Prior to that concert, he'd canceled two other appearances for health-related reasons.
Over the course of his decades-long career, Prince (born Prince Rogers Nelson) won seven Grammys, sold over 100 million records worldwide, and took home an Academy Award (for Best Original Song Score for Purple Rain, in 1985). He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
